Updating your USB Safenet Sentinel hardware key (dongle)

Introduction

Electronic Brochure and purchased copies of the software are supplied with a USB SafeNet Sentinel hardware key (dongle). Not only does this protect the software from piracy, but also it can apply a time limit to the software, and control the software behaviour.

The dongle can be re-programmed remotely, for example to remove a time limit, or add another module. Therefore, if you have purchased new modules, or have agreed with the software suppliers that the characteristics of your software should change, please follow the instructions below.

Instructions

First, open the Secure Update program supplied with your software, by clicking on Start | Program files | Pore-Cor Research Suite 6 | Secure Update as shown. (The exact commands will vary for other languages and Windows Vista.)

Now plug your Pore-Cor Research Suite dongle into any USB port.

Next, click Generate Request Code, as circled red in the picture. Save the request code (.req) into any convenient, known location on your computer. Then email the following two people with a message which has the request code as an attachment:

pmatthews@plymouth.ac.uk; christopher.gribble@plymouth.ac.uk

Unplug the dongle and keep it in a safe place.

You will then be emailed back an update code (.upw), hopefully within 2 working days. When you receive this update code, save it in any convenient, known location on your computer.

Once again plug your Pore-Cor Research Suite dongle into any USB port. Then open the update code with the Open button, circled yellow in the picture. Finally, click the Activate Application command , circled green in the picture. Your dongle should then be updated.

Start Pore-Cor Research Suite, and you should notice that it runs with the agreed new behaviour. If it does not, please report the problem to the three email addresses shown above.
