Development of Pore-Cor Research Suite

New versions

After rigorous testing in 6 different countries, the full release started shipping in early June 2007.

Several updates have also been released. For a full list of features now available, see the version 6.00, 6.01, 6.02 and 6.11 details. A list of features of version 5, which are also included in version 6, can be found by clicking here.

To get a foretaste of version 6.11, you can download its Help system, and then use the Index to find textile, and read the Application tutorial - carbon textile fibre.

  • Pore and throat size distribution
  • The pore and throat size distribution function in Pore-Cor version 6 is based on a Euler beta distribution. Log/Normal (Gaussian or bell-shaped) type distributions can be fitted using an 8-dimensional Simplex, including the new variable 'throat spread' - i.e. the spread of sizes of the throat size distribution. The grid optimisation has also been modified to include the new variable.

Examples of unimodal and bimodal distributions can be seen by clicking Graphic on the right.

  • USB Dongle copy protection
  • The old floppy disc copy protection has been abandoned in favour of the SafeNet Sentinel USB dongle.

  • Diffusion (general release: June 2008)
  • A new algorithm simulates liquid diffusion from the modelled porous structure in the presence of a concentration gradient. Several virtual reality representations of the porous structure, showing the concentration of the diffusing species in pores and throats, are generated during the simulation.

One of the steps of the simulation of diffusion of benzene from a horizontally banded structure immersed in cyclohexane can be seen by clicking Graphic on the right.

  • Flow tracking (likely release date: late 2008)
The flow tracking algorithm simulates the pathways through the unit cell and predicts the most probable pathways taken by fluids.
  • Filtration (likely release date: late 2008)

A new algorithm is available, which simulates particle deposition within the features of the modelled porous structure. By combining this particle deposition with the flow tracking algorithm described above, it is possible to simulate in detail the process of deep bed filtration.

The control panel of the filtration algorithm can be seen by clicking Graphic on the right.

  • Auto- correlation function (likely release date: early 2009)
  • The algorithm calculates the void-void auto-correlation function of the modelled structres at quasi-infinite resolution.
